HOME  OUR PASTOR  MINISTERIAL STAFF  MINISTRIES  ANNOUNCEMENTS

DRS. GUILFORD DAVIS & BENJAMIN HENDERSON, MEN OF THE YEAR!  By D. Valentine-Bey

In keeping with our Men’s Day tradition, the First Sunday in October, our congregants cast their ballots to elect a Man of the Year.

However, this year, was a little different,  Price Memorial chose not one but two men for the year of 2006.  The men we elected were the Rev. Drs. Guilford K. Davis and Benjamin H. Henderson, Jr.

Both preachers are distinctive and dedicated men of the cloth and each will let you know that they truly love the Ministry and the Lord.

Dr. Davis served as pastor at Price Memorial from 1964 to 1996. He adds a unique flavor to our worship services by singing the hymns the old time way.  Dr. Davis also pastored the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Goldsboro,  NC and a rarity in any denomination, he served twicw as the shepherd of the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Perth Amboy, NJ.

Before answering the Call to preach, Dr. Henderson served as a Steward at Price Memorial.  In 1972, he was appointed to pastor the St. Mark A.M.E. Zion, Cliffwood, NJ.  There he led the congregation in building a new edifice.

In 1995, He was appointed to the St. John  A.M.E. Zion Church, Mizpah, NJ, where he served for 7 years.

The theme for Men’s Day was  “Soldiers of the Cross.”  As the electees were presented their certificates, the guest preacher, Min. J. Forrest Gilmore, dubbed both men, Generals in the Lord’s Army. Congratulations Drs. Davis & Henderson.  You truly are, our Men of the Year!

Notes from  the Pastor……

What a Mighty God we serve!  God has truly blessed our church This Conference Year.

All of our Annual Days have been successful, we have just purchased 140 new hymnals, and over the holidays, we distributed holiday food baskets to more than  150 families.  To God be the glory!

I pray that you and your family will walk by faith into 2007 expecting great things from the Lord.

Instead of making multiple New Year’s Resolutions, I suggest that you make a personal commitment to devote at least one hour a day for meditation and prayer.

Many times people make resolutions only to fall back into the old habit they resolved to change.  However, through meditation and prayer, God will enable you the clarity of mind as well as the ability to make the positive changes and choices that will strengthen your walk with Christ.

I close by saying that in the sacred Scriptures, "7" is the number of perfection.  My prayer is that the year 2007 will be a year filled with perfection for you, your family and your church.

In HIS Grip,

      O.L.M, II
