Just released a new episode of the Dads With Daughters podcast, and I had the amazing opportunity to sit down with Cordan James Haveron, the brand new executive director of Fathering Together. We talked about the importance of mental health as a father, especially for those dealing with PTSD, fatherhood, and leading Fathering Together. Here are 3 key takeaways from our conversation:1️⃣ Prioritize Your Mental Health: Cordan shared his personal journey of dealing with PTSD and the steps he took to ensure his mental well-being. From therapy to fitness and self-care, he emphasized the importance of taking care of yourself first in order to be a present and engaged father.2️⃣ Model Emotional Processing: Cordan discussed how he talks to his kids about his PTSD and teaches them the importance of emotional processing. By demonstrating his own feelings and using techniques like tapping, he creates an environment where emotions are acknowledged and understood by the whole family.3️⃣ Improve Communication: Through his open and honest approach, Cordan has built strong lines of communication with his daughter. This has not only improved their relationship, but also helps him apologize when needed and avoid projecting his own feelings onto her.Tune in to the full episode for more insights and advice on fatherhood and raising daughters. Let's continue this journey together, supporting each other and becoming the best dads we can be!https://lnkd.in/gzFN4mtN#PodcastAlert #DadLife #Fatherhood #MentalHealthJourney #Daughters #CommunicationSkills

Understanding the first responder’s job and the culture allows Brooke Bartlett, Ph.D. to meet the client and their families exactly where they are.⁣⁣She’s a proponent of providing psycho-education which creates awareness around mental health proactively rather than relying only on reactions. ⁣⁣(Upstream vs Downstream solutions)⁣⁣Psychoeducation ‘turns on the lights’ to allow first responders to SEE what their mental health struggles are thereby making solving those problems more efficient.⁣⁣Of course, we need downstream interventions to take care of our first responders who are in crisis and she uses evidence-based protocols with very specific agendas to effectively and efficiently treat mental health challenges for first responders and the military. ⁣⁣“Let’s keep healthy people healthy through psycho-education.” -Dr. Brooke⁣⁣Hear more on Episode 66 of the FRW podcast.⁣⁣Please leave a rating and a review! ⁣⁣🖤❤️🖤https://lnkd.in/g-ZqXM4W

💬 Time to Talk: Episode three, and the final one in this series, will be released on Wednesday, 20th March, at 8 am GMT.I can't explain how difficult it is to share vulnerabilities and stories that are very personal and have such a profound impact on your life. This next bit blows my mind, however. 🤯How about doing that when you have just turned sixteen and are in the final year of one of your life's most important education periods?Well, that is precisely what Ella Huges did in this episode. Ella is the daughter of a good friend and ex-colleague, Sarah Wilde, and in this episode, she kindly and bravely shares her story.I'm pretty sure no one reading this is in their teenage years. However, most, if not all of us, will have children, nephews and nieces, neighbours or friends who are or will soon be.So this is a must-watch.I'll now leave the final few words from Ella herself:==========="700,000 suicides a year. I was almost one in that statistic. Instead, here I am, sharing my story with you all to prove that it is possible to get back up after being at rock bottom. I want to share a few statics regarding young people's mental health before I share my battles in the video next week. 😔 115 a week are lost due to suicide😔 1 in 15 have attempted suicideIf you take into account how many people you pass on the streets in your lifetime, almost ¼ of them will have either personally been affected by suicide or know someone who has.20.3% of 8-16 years olds suffer from mental health difficulties. These people haven't even experienced half of what life has to offer. This is a statistic that I am a part of."Ella Huges========❤️🙏🥺
