Can I start an email with Howdy? ›

You can also choose from general greetings: Good Morning, (…) Speaking of general greetings, it's better to skip the most informal ones: Hey, Howdy, Yo, Heya, etc.

Texas A&M Gmail is the official email system for all students. Texas A&M also provides a suite of web-based integrated communication and collaboration tools including Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Groups, Google Hangouts and Google Sites.

To log in to Howdy, you must have a NetID and password. You must also be using a recent version of a standard web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Every student is given a TAMU email address. To create and log in to your @email.tamu.edu email: Go to http://google.tamu.edu and click “Go to Google!” to Claim your Texas A&M Google account. Log into your University e-mail account using your NetID and password.

Nowadays, “howdy” is firmly planted in the Texas lexicon, or, if you will, the Texicon, right up there at the top of a long list that includes “fixin',” “tump,” “y'all,” and “yahoo,” among many others. “Howdy” is indeed the official greeting at Texas A&M University, although nobody knows the origins of the tradition.

How secure is howdy? ›

Howdy is a more quick and convenient way of logging in, not a more secure one. To minimize the chance of this program being compromised, it's recommended to leave Howdy in /lib/security and to keep it read-only. DO NOT USE HOWDY AS THE SOLE AUTHENTICATION METHOD FOR YOUR SYSTEM.

Parent access via Howdy portal - Current students may authorize parent/guardian access to view certain non- directory information (e.g., grades) within Howdy. In order for parents/guardians to gain access to this information in Howdy, the student must request it via the My Record tab in Howdy.

'Howdy' is an informal way of saying 'Hello'. [US, dialect, formulae]

In most contexts, it sounds very informal and unprofessional, so when in doubt –avoid it! It is a common salutation to address close colleagues or friends (and also when messaging in Slack). In American corporate, Australia, and the startup sphere, “Hey” is a valid greeting for business emails.

Using the email greeting “Hello [Name],” is popular and more formal than beginning with “Hi”. This salutation is still personalized with the recipient's name and friendly, but it may be more suitable for official, business professional, unsolicited and cold-open emails.

"Hi everyone," is a little more casual and completely acceptable. "Hey all," is very casual. Only use it when appropriate. "Hi folks," is a favorite of mine because it sounds a bit folksy, and friendlier.
